WHY PSYCHIATRY NJ

What Makes This Practice Different

Biology-First Prescribing

Most psychiatric prescribing is educated guesswork. Michael’s MSc in molecular biology — Hebrew University of Jerusalem, research at Weizmann & Mt Sinai — means every medication decision connects to a specific biological pathway, not pattern-matching. Fewer wasted trials. Clearer rationale.

ABOUT

Why molecular biology matters to your treatment

Most psychiatric prescribing is trial-and-error. My background in
molecular biology — MSc from Hebrew University of Jerusalem, with
research at the Weizmann Institute and Mt Sinai — lets me think about
your case at the level of biological pathways, not just symptom
checklists. That means fewer wasted medication trials and a clearer
rationale for every decision.

Who I treat

Adults, adolescents, and children with anxiety, depression, ADHD,
bipolar disorder, OCD, eating disorders, and complex or treatment-
resistant cases. I work especially well with patients who've been let
down by rushed 15-minute medication checks elsewhere.

What your first visit looks like

A 60-minute initial evaluation — in person at my Fort Lee office or via
telehealth anywhere in NJ or NY. We'll go through your full history,
current symptoms, prior treatments, and biological context. You leave
with a clear diagnosis and a specific medication plan, not a maybe.

FEES & INSURANCE

Self-Pay Practice with Superbill for Out-of-Network Reimbursement

I don’t bill insurance directly — and that’s intentional. Insurance-driven psychiatry means 15-minute appointments, rigid formularies, and a provider who barely knows your case. This practice is self-pay so I can give you 60-minute evaluations and make medication decisions based on what’s right for your biology, not what's on the insurer's approved list. Most patients with out-of-network benefits recover 50–80% of fees by submitting the detailed superbill I provide at every visit.

FAQ

Common Questions for Psychiatry NJ

Things patients usually want to know before reaching out.

What conditions are commonly treated by psychiatry NJ?

Psychiatry NJ evaluates and treats a wide range of mental health conditions using medical, diagnostic, and evidence-based approaches. This can include psychiatric evaluations, psychiatric medication management, and ongoing monitoring for conditions such as mood disorders, anxiety disorders, panic disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, personality disorders, eating disorders, psychotic disorders, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, treatment-resistant depression, postpartum depression, and substance abuse. The goal is improved stability, functioning, and overall quality of life.

A structured psychiatric assessment reviews symptom history, duration, intensity, sleep patterns, energy levels, concentration difficulties, stress exposure, and overall functional impairment. Using established clinical diagnostic criteria, an individualized treatment plan is developed based on the patient’s unique presentation.

Psychiatric services in New Jersey emphasize evidence-based medication management, safe prescribing practices, dosage adjustments when necessary, and ongoing monitoring to ensure treatment remains effective and well tolerated. Psychiatry is not limited to prescribing medication. It involves continuous clinical oversight to improve symptom control, restore stability, and support long-term mental health resilience.

What is a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation?

A comprehensive psychiatric evaluation is an in-depth clinical assessment designed to clarify diagnosis and determine appropriate treatment. During the evaluation, the psychiatrist reviews emotional symptoms, cognitive patterns, behavioral changes, medical history, prior treatment history, and functional impairment.

This process includes assessing the frequency and duration of symptoms such as depressed mood, anxiety, mood swings, attention difficulties, sleep disruption, appetite changes, and energy fluctuations. The goal is to differentiate between conditions like depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety disorders, ADHD, or trauma-related concerns.

Psychiatry NJ prioritizes diagnostic accuracy because effective medication management depends on clear identification of the underlying condition. A thorough evaluation ensures that treatment decisions are precise, individualized, and evidence-based.

How does medication management work in psychiatry NJ?

Medication management is a structured clinical process involving careful medication selection, dose optimization, monitoring for side effects, and ongoing assessment of therapeutic response. Medications commonly prescribed in psychiatric care may include antidepressants such as SSRIs or SNRIs, mood stabilizers, stimulant or non-stimulant ADHD medications, and other psychiatric medications depending on diagnosis.

Psychiatric medication is initiated cautiously, often beginning with a lower dose and gradually adjusting as needed. Follow-up appointments evaluate symptom changes, sleep quality, emotional regulation, concentration, and overall daily functioning. Side effects such as gastrointestinal changes, restlessness, fatigue, or appetite fluctuations are monitored and addressed appropriately.

Psychiatry in New Jersey emphasizes safe prescribing standards and continuous reassessment to ensure medications remain aligned with patient goals and clinical progress.

What should I expect during my first visit?

Your first visit is a thoughtful, in-depth conversation designed to help me understand you as a whole person—not just a set of symptoms. I’ll ask about your personal, psychiatric, and medical history, discuss your current challenges, and begin identifying your treatment goals. There are no specific prerequisites, but it’s very helpful if you bring a list of your current medications and supplements, any relevant family medical or mental health history, and a sense of the life events or stressors you think I should know about. This session lays the groundwork for a personalized and effective treatment plan.

Can psychiatry NJ treat co-occurring mental health conditions?

instability, or trauma-related symptoms alongside panic disorder or obsessive-compulsive disorder. Overlapping symptoms can complicate diagnosis, making comprehensive evaluation essential.

Psychiatric services in New Jersey assess the full clinical picture rather than isolating one symptom cluster. Treatment planning considers multiple contributing factors, ensuring medication strategies address interconnected conditions. Coordinated management improves overall stability and reduces symptom recurrence.

Do you offer in-person appointments, telehealth (virtual) appointments, or both?

At Gimel Health, I offer in-person, telehealth, and hybrid appointment options to meet your needs and preferences. However, in accordance with clinical best practices and legal guidelines, your first visit must take place in person, unless a rare exception applies. After the initial evaluation, follow-up appointments may be conducted virtually, depending on your situation and current state regulations. My goal is to deliver flexible, high-quality care while upholding standards that ensure effective and responsible treatment.

How does psychiatry NJ support long-term mental stability?

Psychiatric care is designed not only for symptom reduction but also for long-term stability. Through structured medication management, dosage optimization, and consistent monitoring, individuals often experience improved emotional regulation, clearer thinking, better sleep patterns, and enhanced daily functioning.

Relapse prevention plays an important role in psychiatric care. Follow-up appointments assess early warning signs such as mood shifts, sleep disruption, or increased anxiety levels. Early identification allows for timely treatment adjustments that prevent escalation.

Psychiatry in New Jersey emphasizes continuity of care to sustain improvements and reduce the likelihood of recurring episodes.

What symptoms indicate the need for psychiatric care?

Symptoms that may warrant psychiatric evaluation include persistent sadness, excessive worry, mood swings, intrusive thoughts, panic attacks, difficulty concentrating, irritability, emotional instability, or chronic sleep disturbance. When these symptoms interfere with work performance, academic focus, relationships, or self-care, professional assessment becomes important.

Psychiatry NJ provides structured evaluation to determine whether medication management may improve symptom control and restore functional balance.

Do you work with other healthcare providers (e.g., therapists, primary care physicians, etc.)?

Yes, I strongly support a collaborative, team-based approach to mental healthcare. With your consent, I’m glad to coordinate with your therapist, primary care physician, or any other healthcare providers involved in your care. At Gimel Health, I believe that open communication among providers often leads to more effective treatment and better long-term outcomes, especially when navigating complex or overlapping medical and psychiatric concerns.
