For many patients, it removes the barrier that keeps care from happening at all: a long commute, a rigid work schedule, or simply not wanting to sit in a waiting room.
Is Telepsychiatry NJ Legal and Regulated?
Yes. New Jersey's Telemedicine and Telehealth Act (N.J.S.A. 45:1-62) requires that telehealth care meet the same standard as in-person care, delivered by a provider licensed in New Jersey. The law also sets a specific rule for controlled substances: medications like ADHD stimulants require an initial in-person examination before they can be prescribed via telehealth, with an in-person follow-up required at least every three months to continue. This is exactly why the first visit at Gimel Health takes place in person, it's not an arbitrary preference, it's how New Jersey law requires controlled substance prescribing to work.
A Real Office, Not a Telehealth-Only Platform
Many telehealth psychiatry platforms operate without any physical office in the state, which limits what they're legally able to prescribe. Gimel Health is based in a real office in Fort Lee, which means the full range of psychiatric medications, including controlled substances when clinically appropriate, is available to patients who complete the required in-person visits, not just the medications a telehealth-only platform is permitted to prescribe.
What Telepsychiatry Visits at Gimel Health Look Like
The first evaluation takes place in person at the Fort Lee office, a full 60 minutes covering history, prior treatment, and the biological context behind a patient's symptoms. After that, most follow-up medication management visits can be conducted by telehealth, with in-person visits scheduled as needed to stay compliant with New Jersey's prescribing requirements for certain medications.

molecular biology — MSc from Hebrew University of Jerusalem, with
research at the Weizmann Institute and Mt Sinai — lets me think about
your case at the level of biological pathways, not just symptom

Can I get my entire evaluation done online?
